Heritage

Founded in 1881, the Cuckfield Cottage Homes Trust began when Miss Mary Frances Maberly acquired Church Field to construct three cottages for those in need. The homes were dedicated at Holy Trinity Church in 1882, establishing a legacy of community care that continues today.

Our Mission

The Trust provides comfortable, secure housing for residents aged sixty and over who are in need and follow the Christian faith. We prioritize serving those from the Parish of Cuckfield, offering six well-maintained flats for independent living.

Governance

As a registered charity (No. 229475), we're governed by a dedicated board of trustees chaired by the Vicar. Operating under a Trust Deed updated in 2007, we maintain the historic almshouses while adapting to meet modern needs and standards.

Resident

"I moved into the Cottage Homes three years ago after my husband passed away. At first, I was nervous about the change, but I couldn't have found a more welcoming place to call home. My flat is comfortable and warm, and I have my own little space to tend to my potted plants, which brings me such joy. What makes it special is how it's more than just a place to live - it's a proper community. I can be independent, which matters greatly to me, but I never feel alone. Being right next to the church means I can easily attend services, and the location in the heart of Cuckfield means I can still pop to the shops and keep up with village life. The Trust takes wonderful care of the buildings. When my heating needed attention last winter, they had it fixed straight away. It means so much to have this security in my later years, especially as costs seem to be rising everywhere else. I feel truly blessed to live here, and I hope these homes can continue providing the same comfort to others long into the future."
